It seems to me that one has trouble defending this view from Scripture. Many of the dating and personal relationship safeguards of years gone by seem to have been cast aside. This appears to be clearly indicated in 1 Corinthians 7: The principle stated in 2 Corinthians 6:

What does the Bible say about dating? What kind of person should you date? It’s in the Bible, II Timothy , TLB. “Run from anything that gives you the evil thoughts that young men often have, but stay close to anything that makes you want to do right. Have faith and love, and enjoy the companionship of those who love the Lord and have pure hearts.”.
Some people will not stand for this Truth because, to them, it opens the door for license. To them, if God does not condemn us when we sin, then we are free to sin. First of all, ask: Has God’s condemnation ever stopped anyone from sinning? Sure, maybe we have developed a religious pattern of being controlled by condemnation — one which we think keeps us in line. Maybe we are so used to obeying God to avoid “His condemnation” that we are convinced condemnation is from God — and a good and valid thing.

Mar 23, Scott Croft Looking for a completely countercultural path to marriage? Here’s how to apply God’s Word to dating, finding a spouse and getting married. The system today’s young men and women have inherited for finding and marrying a future spouse leaves a lot to be desired. We often hear complaints from readers about the confusion, hurt and sexual sin they’ve encountered despite their best intentions.
Many want to know how they can go about getting to know someone and eventually getting married without getting hurt or compromising their faith. At Focus on the Family, we’ve offered a range of resources and expert advice bringing biblical principles to bear in this area. Some of the messages we’ve presented have taken the position that Christians can apply their faith in such a way that they can still work within the system they’ve inherited.
Other messages have stressed that Christians need to be much more counter-cultural. Joshua Harris, for instance, has promoted a model of courtship that harkens back to a model used broadly before modern dating evolved.

I am an evangelical Christian and I have been dating a wonderful man who is a devout Catholic. We are concerned that we will not fully agree on important things if we consider marriage. What do you think, is right or wrong if a Catholic and a Christian were to marry? I am deeply concerned for you and your friend.
I have received a few emails from Christians (and even one from a non-Christian) asking if it is okay for a Christian to date or marry an unbeliever. Usually, by the time the question is asked, the relationship has gone far enough that a negative answer is going to be difficult to accept, even if it.
Could you kindly elaborate 2 Cor 6: Believe it or not, I have gotten virtually this exact question a number of times, which is really surprising given that this is a Christian evidences web site. Apparently a lot of people use this passage to teach about Christian dating and marriage! First of all, the passage is definitely not discussing dating, as “dating” did not even exist in the first century. It is also not talking about marriage specifically.
Paul is stating a principle rather than a rule in 2 Corinthians 6: Marriage is not mentioned in this passage. However, I believe it is a legitimate application of the principle to say that a Christian ought not to be involved in romantic or physical relationships with non-believers. If marriage is not a good example of being “unequally yoked,” I do not know what is. It might be a bit more of a stretch to create a “rule” against dating a non-Christian from this passage as dating is not really a good example of being yoked.
However, I do not believe it is gross misapplication. Anyone who uses this passage to teach that it is sinful to date a non-Christian is probably exaggerating.
